Everything is very simple when it comes to choosing underpants because there are only S, M or L. But what happens when we have to choose the size of the shirt? Things get complicated, right? Finding the shirt that best suits our figure is a complicated task because a bad fit can affect not only your appearance, but also practicality and comfort.

That is why we have decided to provide you with a guide with a few tips that will help you when choosing a shirt of any color that will best suit your needs and/or your body type. Take note now!

If what you need is to know which suit suits you best, we also have advice for you.

How to get the shirt size right?

The first thing you should do is take a tape measure because you will need it to know -exactly- what your dimensions are. Pro tip: It will also help to have a full-length mirror so you can see yourself better and take measurements while wearing light clothing. If the handling of the tape measure is complicated for you, it will not hurt if another person gives you a hand.

Keep in mind that each area of the body must be measured at a specific point:

  1. Neck: The collar size of a shirt is a standard measurement between all pieces of different brands, and is measured in inches. Run the measuring tape around your throat, putting a finger between the tape and your neck if you don't want it to be too big. tight. Standard size figures generally range from 15 inches (37 cm) to 18 inches (46 cm).
  2. Shoulders: this measurement is taken on the back of the shirt, between the points where the sleeves are sewn at the yoke (part of a shirt to which the collar, sleeves and the rest of the garment are sewn ).
  3. Sleeve: Like the collar, shirt sleeves are measured in inches and are a universal measurement. Many brands work only one sleeve length (usually 34 inches), so they don't usually talk about this measurement. It is measured from the middle of the neck, passing the tape over the shoulder and down the outside of the arm to the wrist. We recommend bending your arm a little when measuring so that your shirt gives you movement and you don't feel cloistered in your own garment.
  4. Chest: To measure this area of the body, place the tape measure under your armpits, around the widest part of your chest and shoulder blades. Only the front part is taken into account and to give you an idea, the standard measurements range between 44 and 68 cm (25 and 46 inches). This measurement is very important because it is also the reference for a bespoke suit.
  5. Waist: Lastly, with the shirt buttoned up, measure between the fourth and fifth buttons. This is usually the point where the shirt is the narrowest and will give you an idea if your shirt will be slimmer or looser.
