"Mamás que Ayudan" is a project that was born in Mar del Plata, and that today is carried out in Olavarría with 16 volunteer mothers and nine donation points. This initiative was created by Julieta, mother of an 8-month-old baby.

The young woman from Mar del Plata decided to donate her baby's clothes and realized the need in her city for mothers with their newborn babies. In this context, Julieta “asked for clothes on social networks later, more volunteers joined and the orders increased. They not only asked for clothes but hygiene items and that is how mothers who help were born,” said Guadalupe Esnal, a local reference.

In dialogue with Infoeme, Esnal explained that "Mamás que Ayudan" receives donations of clothing and hygiene products and makes different kits for pregnant women or mothers of babies with one month of life. In Mar del Plata so far more than 200 kits have been delivered.

Guadalupe found Julieta's Instagram account, contacted her and told her that she wanted to replicate her idea in our city. "As soon as I proposed it through my social networks, a lot of girls began to write to me who would like to be volunteers," explained this mother of an almost 6-month-old baby.

The mothers who wish to receive these kits are contacted by WhatsApp or Instagram, in this line the local referent pointed out the importance of dissemination in the media "the mothers find out this way and write to us". “Many of the mothers who sign up have told us that both they and their partner do not have a job and that with the pandemic this has worsened,” Guadalupe said.

The local situation is being studied because "here it is happening to us that mothers arrive who need help and have babies with several months, so it is a situation that we are going to be able to raise two months from now," explained the young woman who at the moment Together with the team, they analyze whether in Olavarría the project will continue with the same guidelines as in its place of origin or if it will be expanded.

The volunteers publicized the project and spoke with local businesses that sell baby items to offer them to be part of the donation points. In the city there are 9 shops that accompany. "That helps us a lot because the audience that sees it are moms and dads who have babies who, like us, can have something to donate," she said. The volunteers go on to collect the donations once a week or every 15 days.

“Mamás que Ayudan” needs donations of: baby clothes (up to 18 months), sheets and towels, Guadalupe remarked that “we have also received a crib with mattresses, a cot” all these things are also accepted. Then they ask the community to collaborate with hygiene items for both the mother and the baby: diapers, oil, cotton, wipes, breast dressings, postpartum dressings, calendula cream, baby soap, shampoo, among other things.

In our city this space has recorded, so far, 10 mothers and a few hours ago they communicated from a picnic area that they needed assistance in 5 more cases. Those who wish to collaborate or request assistance can do so by calling 2284-731472

candy's case

“Today we want to tell you about the situation of a teenage mother from Olavarría. We are going to call her Candy Cane”, begins the publication with which “Moms who help” request assistance for a local case.

Facing this harsh winter, Candy lives in a house with sheet metal walls, a "door" made of padding and a dirt floor. Inside this home, there are no chairs, no table. Candy lives there with her baby and her mother.

This case reached “Mamás que Ayudan” through Social Service. The local organization is preparing a kit with clothes and hygiene products for the baby, plus what they are getting. Candy has received blankets and warm clothing from members of the Local Police.

Due to the fact that the situation is very complex for this small family, "Moms who help" invited through the Facebook social network those people from Olavarri who want to "sponsor" or "sponsor" Candy and her family, to do so through the purchase or donation of hygiene products.

“As everyone who follows us knows, we deliver kits for newborns. But there are cases like these that we cannot let go without doing something”, concludes this publication. Those who want to collaborate can do so by calling 2284.731472.
