Would you put your most delicate clothes in the washing machine?

By hollisterclothingoutlet 17/03/2022 801 Views

Let's face it, no blushes. We have all suffered at some point an experience close to collapse when we have opened the washing machine and we have found: a) shrunken clothes, b) garments of an uncertain tonality, c) an almost transparent fabric shirt, d) a sweater three larger sizes...

There is no need to overthink it, because this does not depend on age or short-term memory, nor on whether you are already living on your own... It does have a lot to do with rushing and stress, and with those superhero agendas that make it necessary to reconcile as much as possible and to carry out daily tasks on autopilot and without the attention they require. Error!

If you think that the previous situation defines you, you will feel very identified with this video that Juan Avellaneda has recorded for the LG campaign #CuidaTuropaYelPlaneta and of which he is the guest of honor.

We asked the designer about his mishaps with the washing machine and... Surprise!

"Sometimes I have messed it up with the washing machine. Few, because you learn from your mistakes. I remember a sweater that I was very fond of, because it was from a brand with a lot of meaning for me, and when I went to put it on it gave me a certain smell to a closed cabinet. I was in a hurry to solve the problem and I put it in the washing machine with the rest of the things that I already had, I started it, without paying attention to anything else, and... What a disaster! That was no longer fixable .

How would you have acted today?

Today that sweater would not smell closed, because I always think about the ventilation of the cabinets, as well as including soaps with the aromas of my favorite fragrances, little bags of herbs that bring back olfactory memories, scented ceramics that emit a delightful smell... I put them in a place where I hardly notice them, but they leave their presence every time I open it. Now I also pay much more attention to the label of the clothes and the washing instructions. If it says don't wash, it doesn't even occur to me, or I try to wet somewhere inside that won't be seen later. If it bears the hand wash symbol, I only dare to put it in the washing machine if I have as an ally one of LG's innovative washing machines with Artificial Intelligence and a specific program for "delicate" fabrics.

I know it's obvious, but before doing laundry, my advice is to make an effort to catalog the clothes by textures and colors and then put them garment by garment and stretched, not all in a block. Because a single camouflaged sock can ruin everything. And if you have invested more in a special garment, it is important to take good care of it so that it lasts a long time.

If the washing machine is one of those of a lifetime, I recommend putting the most special clothes, for example, lingerie, in a washing bag, to avoid snags and breakages, make sure that nothing from the previous laundry remains in the drum and keep the washing machine clean, because many odors and deterioration of the fabrics can come from residues of the process itself that remain in the machine".

LG Artificial Intelligence washing machines have a database of up to 20,000 patterns that allows them to adapt washing to each type of fabric, even the most delicate. Thanks to this innovation, they carry out an optimal wash in each load, reducing the wear of the fabrics and favoring that the garments are cared for as the first day.

In addition, the drum and the batters of these new intelligent washing machines are made of stainless steel, a more hygienic material than traditional plastic ones and that helps to take care of the garments, avoiding clothes snags.

And would you add fabric softener to your delicate clothes?

A lot of people love using it, but I'm not a huge fan. It is another mistake that we make very frequently, using much more than the recommended amount of these concentrates when not all garments do well. There are textiles that can lose their properties, such as towels, which stop absorbing as expected.

Steam is a 100% natural softener, perfect for clothes and better for the skin, since by not adding chemicals to fabrics, freshly washed clothes are suitable for even the most sensitive epidermis.

But wouldn't you put a glitter or silk dress in the washing machine?

"We are talking about extremely delicate garments for which hand washing is generally recommended, but with the right washing machine, such as the new generation of LG, I would probably put them in, although separated from the rest of the laundry. That is, an appliance modern, with state-of-the-art technology, that respects fabrics and has a specific program for delicate garments and a short cycle, that washes and cares for these garments as if it were washed by hand.

        Fernando Roy

But this is no longer a matter of trust or undergoing an extra session of zen relaxation until the washing machine finishes to check if the clothes are perfect (or not). This type of state-of-the-art, eco-efficient and Artificial Intelligence product, such as LG's washing machines, which not only cleans but also cares for fabrics by reducing wear and tear, already exists."

Among the innovations to help care for the most delicate garments is the LG MiniWash™. A complement that converts the main washing machine into a double drum one and allows two washes to be carried out at the same time, but separately. Perfect for those garments that need a "hand wash".

        Think, wash, care

And after washing, how do we continue to care for these special garments?

"Drying is another critical process. If there is any doubt with any garment, it is better to dry it in a horizontal position so that it does not lose its shape and without direct sunlight. And when it comes to storing it... the trend to save space in the closet is to roll clothes, but you can do that with jeans or leggings. Special clothes deserve more. Padded hangers are a good resource for dresses, shirts, jackets or clothes that need to respect the shape of the shoulders. Coats always in the widest hangers and the point, it should never be hung".

If there is not enough space in the closet, sometimes a free-standing coat rack can be a good resource in which to hang bulky garments or those that are used less, protected with a cover (better made of fabric so that the fabrics can breathe) and thus decongest the wardrobe. .

As for shoes, it is advisable to store them with the last (the correct size), so that they do not deform, always clean (with suitable products) and dry. If they've just been used, I recommend leaving them out for at least a couple of hours before putting them in a box."

Taking care of your clothes so you can wear them many times is not just a matter of housekeeping. It is also an act of responsibility towards the environment. According to the latest data, the average Westerner only wears a garment 7-10 times before it is thrown away or it collects dust. In Spain, 90% of the garments that are discarded end up in the landfill, which represents a waste of 800,000 tons of textile materials each year.
