And who said fear. Woe to those who dare to enter Colombia with the untouchable exclusive breastfeeding. Unquestionable doctrine for the Colombian Pediatrics, absolute truth for millions of families, irrefutable dogma for dozens of journalists, crusade for social networks and revealed truth for millions of Colombian mothers.

And an intractable issue within a society convinced that there is only one truth for mothers: that you have to give breast milk exclusively during the first 6 months of life and without mixing anything with it. Nothing is nothing: no food, neither solid nor liquid, neither water nor tea, nor any other type of milk during the first semester of life. This is established by the definition of 'Exclusive breastfeeding' of the World Health Organization, the Holy See itself for the Colombian Pediatric Association. It doesn't matter how dehydrated the baby seems, it doesn't matter how much reflux it may have, it doesn't matter if it vomits up mom's milk, it doesn't matter if the factory can't take it anymore, it doesn't matter if the production is low, it doesn't matter if the baby is hungry It doesn't matter if she cries for two or three hours straight until production recharges again. Filling cycle that forces mothers to drink liters of water, torrents of aromatic water, hundreds of fennel tea bags, dozens of health pills , potions of panela water and glasses of whole cow's milk. Anything there is to stimulate the hormones that stop breastfeeding: prolactin, oxytocin and FIL, responsible for the proper daily functioning of the factory. Factory that supports an entire industry dogmatized in favor of breastfeeding: lactation consultants manufacturers of nursing pillows, breastfeeding books, breastfeeding courses, nursing bras, nursing baby carriers, breast milk pumps, electric milking machines, non-staining nipple shields, cold hydrogel patches for sore nipples, nipple creams cracked, nipple formers for those that are flat or inverted, absorbent patches that prevent fluid leaks, tops and shirts with special openings to remove the breasts through different orifices. Businesses and pediatricians who indoctrinate with the idea that breast milk is the only food allowed during the first 6 months of life. It does not matter if there are juices, fruits, porridges, water, cow's milk or formulated jar milk. It is the unquestionable commandment of the WHO and Colombiana de Pediatría. Fanaticism that does not take into account the point of view of mothers, nor their immense details with the daily feeding of an infant: pain in the nipples, blood from the cracks, pain so frequently, back pain after hours of breastfeeding, burning in the dry areola or nipples full of sores. And a small detail: mothers of multiples who cannot produce enough milk to fill two mouths simultaneously. An untouchable cult in Colombia, but not everywhere, thanks to researchers who dare to experiment based on the scientific method: observation, experimentation , verification and refutation of a mass phenomenon. Absolute truths in science do not exist; not even in mathematics, where one and one do not always equal two, as happens in the binary computational system. All scientific revolutions started from truths that were believed to be absolute: that the earth was flat, that it was the center of the universe, that we came from Adam and Eve, that nothing beats exclusive breastfeeding. What's wrong with looking at other possibilities, other dimensions, other ways of establishing relationships between causes and consequences? Several international studies have shown that formula milk helps babies grow much faster in weight and height: that of the European Commission of June 2018, that of the University of Ghent in Belgium of July 2014, that of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition of February 2012, that of the Norwegian University of Science and January 2010. Studies that examined the long-term effects of these milks designed to the millimeter with iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin D, probiotics and proteins. And most importantly: with higher amounts of DHA and ARA (docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid), two Omega-3 fatty acids present in much higher amounts than those found in breast milk. Acids that help to go further in the growth curves, as verified by different studies between North American and European communities. Studies that could explain the very low rates of breastfeeding in countries such as Ireland, France, the United States, Belgium, Estonia, Latvia, Denmark and Sweden; all coleros in breastfeeding but first in population height. By contrast, Latin America has one of the highest breastfeeding rates and one of the lowest in terms of height. Mere coincidence or consequence of the doctrine? The earth is not flat nor does breastfeeding have to be unique and exclusive for the first six months of life. There is an infinite universe of complement possibilities, which include fruits, juices,cereals, porridges, cow's milk and formulated milk that serve to accelerate growth in height and size.
