Ciudad Juárez— With very worn shoes, huaraches and even with barefoot children, is how many migrants arrive in Ciudad Juárez, so given the low temperatures in the city, the Casa del Migrante invited the binational community to donate sneakers and socks for children and adults.

A few days ago, a group of Mexican migrants from Guerrero came to ask for help at the Catholic shelter, "shivering with cold" and without shoes. The House currently has its doors closed to more people, to prevent an outbreak of Covid-19 among the 320 people it already houses, but seeing the conditions they were in, its workers distributed jackets, socks and shoes.

At least one of the children was barefoot and three others wore huaraches. This is the same situation in which many migrants displaced by violence travel, who one day are forced to flee their places of origin, where the climate is generally hot.

"The Casa del Migrante needs your support, if you have a pair of sneakers that you no longer use and are in good condition, you can donate them to our shelter," asked its social worker, Ivonne López de Lara.

Although the need is for all kinds of winter clothing, such as jackets, sweatshirts, hats, scarves and underwear, this time the activist made a call to donate tennis shoes, which will be given to migrants who are looking for a better life. from the other side of the border or who are already inside the shelter, but who have their old shoes or who only have huaraches.

“We need tennis shoes number 6 to 8 for men, they are the measures that we need the most; for girls and boys, but sizes from 17 to 23, and for women from 2 to 7”, said López de Lara, in whose shelter there are 120 minors with their families.

Most of the travelers who are staying are Mexicans who are fleeing kidnappings, extortion, threats, whose husbands were deprived of their liberty by criminal groups or who had to flee so that their children would not be taken from them to work in crime. .

In the Catholic shelter, the migrants receive food, clothing, personal hygiene kits, psychological support, legal advice, participate in recreational activities, the children have classes and are isolated to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

López de Lara also highlighted the need for Nido milk stages 1, 2 and 3, diapers from stages 5 and 6, toilet paper, shampoo, body cream, powder soap, dish soap, cold meats, vegetables, fruits and chicken. .

Due to the increase in positive cases of Covid-19 in the binational community, they are not currently receiving used clothing, she reported.

If you want to support the Casa del Migrante, you can go every day of the week, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at its facilities located at 1855 Neptuno Street, in the Satélite neighborhood, or call 656-687-0676 to receive more information.
