Vox would have a hard time without the women. If Spain lost half of its population tomorrow, the extreme right would not be able to do politics because Santiago Abascal's party uses feminism to win votes thanks to the objections and fears that it arouses in many men —and also in some women—, the advance of equality.
The image left last Thursday by the general secretary of Vox, Javier Ortega Smith, is the latest example of how the extreme right plays with feminism. The ultra spokesman in the Madrid City Council refused to stand behind the banner against gender violence during the minute of silence of the municipal spokespersons for the latest sexist murder, that of Mari Carmen MV, 46, perpetrated by her ex-partner in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid).

Vox, determined to deny sexist violence and classify it only as violence so as not to “criminalize” men, is nothing against the current. Ortega Smith himself already starred in a tense scuffle with the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, a couple of years ago, for displaying a banner with the message "Violence has no gender" in another minute of silence for another murdered woman.
